Port Fisher offers new and exciting possibilities for riverfront industrial activity.
What is Port Fisher?
"There are some great and exciting possibilities that this inter-modal facility provides that could lead to increased jobs and investment in Bay County!!!" --Mark Litten, president, Bay Future, Inc.
Port Fisher, owner of Bay Aggregate Inc., 411 Tiernan Road, is creating an 80-acre industrial development district along the Saginaw River in Bangor Township.
Port Fisher has a 99-year lease on the property from Dow Chemical Co., which shut down operations at the site when code changes to tank standards were made in 2000.
Port Fisher Terminals is a multi-modal port site, offering vessel, rail, and highway transportation services. Located in Bay City, Michigan -- centrally located on the East Coast of Michigan -- the port is protected by the Saginaw Bay and supported by the Saginaw River.
Railroad service to the port is supported by Lake States Railroad, and Lake States Class A interchanges with CSX and Canadian National (CN). The port's highway transportation services are supported and serviced by Class A roads, connecting to major highways.
It sounds like this dock facility near the mouth of the river is a realization of the dreams of another Fisher, industrialist, banker and railroad magnate Spencer O. Fisher, the "father of Greater Bay City," had in the 1800s.
The company's website states: "Port Fisher Terminals is a proud member of the Fisher Companies, which is comprised of nine separate companies. Our top priority is 100% customer satisfaction through safety, quality, customer service, and integrity."
The Fisher firm moved from the present site of Uptown at RiversEdge to the site near the river mouth when the City of Bay City began preparing for the development.
The list of superlatives about the little known Port Fisher is lengthy and impressive nonetheless:

Brink Terminal Services, of Muskegon, which is investing $3.2 million in Bangor Township, manufactures liquid fertilizers for private and industrial farms. The company receives shipments of concentrated nitrogen and phosphate liquid fertilizers, which are then processed on-site.
"That area is a part of Port Fisher and the "big tubes" are owned by Brink Terminals," said Litten. "This was a project that Bay Future attracted to Bay County (in 2012) and has continued to work on."
Brian Brink, operations manager of Brink Terminal Services, said:
"Some (concentrated fertilizer) comes from U.S. production, but more and more is coming from overseas due to the lack of production in the U.S.," said Brink. "It can't be stored in this high concentration in cold weather -- Brink processes these products to manufacture the forms of nitrogen and phosphorous which are used by farmers today."
