I enjoyed the District Girls' basketball tournament over at Nouvel this past week (See Sports, this issue of MBC). Great competition and great athletes brought back fond memories. Let's take a quick ride in the infamous "Sports Page Wayback Machine" and remember the lady superstars of 1976 . . . both in Bay County high school girls' basketball and Bay County Recreation competition.
The 1976 girls' basketball season was highlighted by the Bay City Central District Class A championship performance of the Lady Wolves. Central erupted for 21 points in the final quarter to pull away from the Midland Chemics 49-39 to claim the District title.

Baskin Robbins set the standard in Bay County Rec Basketball during the 1976 season with an 11-1 season mark with only a 37-32 loss to Paul's Clark to blemish their near-perfect season. Baskin Robbins averaged 38 points per game while allowing their opponents only 23 points per game to lead the league in both categories.
