Many of us through the years have had venison, caribou and even duck. But have you tried buffalo steak, wild boar tips, jambalaya and yes, squirrel dumplings and turtle bisque. This was just some of the fun of the 18th Annual Wild Game Dinner hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 103.

This event was again a sell out with well over 400 people in attendance. The event is held to honor and support the Jack Sebald Scholarship Fund but this event is much more. It is an opportunity for many citizens to come out and show their support for law enforcement through great food, even better fellowship and yes, a chance to walk away with some great prizes.

Here is some of the different prizes at the auction.

This year we got to celebrate the recovery of Officer Brandon Murphy who was shot in the leg while pursuing a suspect. As the popular officer stepped to the microphone to give the evening meals prayer, he was greeted with a standing ovation for his courage and dedication. Also honored was Rich Hayward, a long time donor and supporter of the night who tragically lost his life in a plane crash a couple years back. It was refreshing to see 400 strong stand and with hand over heart recite the pledge of allegiance.

Over 50 businesses and individuals donated to this grand event insuring both the events success but also adding to the fun of winning prizes as well. Sheets of tickets were sold at a reasonable $10 a sheet allowing each participant to place in the buckets of his choosing for the quality prizes they covet. You could also purchase tickets for a shot at a 50 inch screen TV, a ground blind and yes, guns. It made me want to go hunt, or at least target shoot. Other great prizes in no particular order were Terry Redlin prints, various hunting and fishing gear, a pair of stadium seats, a snow blower, various outdoor cookers and much, much more.

Redlin prints, pampered chef's, heaters and outdoor cookers were just a sample of the prizes available.

But the purpose and highlight of the night's event was the chance to see our local officers, past and present. Whether it was taking tickets, Emceeing the prize drawings, or just enjoying great conversation at the tables, it is their dedication to our safety and lives we honored this night.

Next year's event is scheduled for April 30th. Make sure you mark this date down and purchase your tickets early from the Bay City Public Safety Officers and members of Lodge 103 of the FOP.
