MOVE TO UPTOWN: Michigan Sugar Offices, 65 Employees Said Heading to City
Chris Girard, Bay City commissioner and mayoral candidate, reports that Michigan Sugar Co. is moving its corporate offices to Uptown at RiversEdge.
In a posting on Facebook, Girard states: "Just learned Michigan Sugar is moving their corporate offices to Uptown."
In a subsequent posting, Girard added that the firm has 65 employees in their headquarters. Mark Flegenheimer is president and CEO.
Using the catch-phrase "Locally Grown. Locally Owned," Michigan Sugar
today is the only remaining sugar company in the state and the third largest in the United States.
Michigan Sugar has over 1,000 grower-owners, employing 1,600 seasonal employees during peak processing season and 700 year-round employees. It operates production facilities in Bay City (Frankenlust Township), Caro, Croswell and Sebewaing.
Warehouses are located in Carrollton, and Findlay and Fremont, Ohio.
The firm generates nearly one half billion dollars in direct economic activity annually in the local communities in which it operates.
Its combined factories have a beet slicing capacity of 22,000 tons per day and an ability to produce over one billion pounds of sugar each year, which it markets under the Pioneer Sugar and Big Chief Sugar brand names.
