Bay Area Community Foundation

Bay County, MI - During the week of November 12-18, the Bay Area Community Foundation will be joining over 700 community foundations across America for Community Foundation Week to tell the stories of lives changed, jobs created, and communities transformed through partnerships with private and public community leaders and organizations.

Kicking off the week is the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals' National Philanthropy Day luncheon. Hosted at Freeland's Apple Mountain Resort and Conference Center, this event is an opportunity for the community to recognize and pay tribute to local leaders in philanthropy. This year the Bay Area Community is being honored as the Outstanding Foundation for this past year.

"I would like to thank all of our trustees, committee members, volunteers, donors and staff who helped us reach this achievement!" said Eileen Curtis, the Foundation's President and CEO. "This award was only possible because of these generous supporters. We are grateful that the community continues to choose us as their partner in providing grant opportunities for local organizations that drive us to a thriving community. It is our mission is to fulfill donor wishes, and our vision is to improve the quality of life through philanthropy in the Bay Area."

With over 300 different funds the Bay Area Community Foundation holds more than $30 million in assets which support charitable causes ranging from arts and culture to youth and education. Staying true to their motto of "For good. For ever." the Foundation invests and administers these funds and uses a portion each year to award grants and scholarships. Since 1982 they have provided over $20 million in support to local nonprofits and students.

Community foundations are independent, public entities that steward philanthropic resources from donors to nonprofit organizations and represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy. Every state in the United States is home to at least one community foundation - large and small, urban and rural - that is advancing solutions to a wide range of social issues.
