'Ctrl+Alt+Del' is a term most computer users know, but did you also know it's the name of a group of local teens?

I recently met with the three members of this talented band and they are, David Clare, 18, Chad Hughes, 17 and Zach Dyer, 17. All three are Garber High School seniors and have been interested in music as long as they can remember.

According to Zach, drummer for the group, "We've known each other since Kindergarten and have been playing together 4-5 years now".

They got a major part of their motivation from Mr. Lewis, the band director at Garber HS. All three were in Jazz band. "He's the main reason we got started", said Chad, David and Zach.

Chad, bassist and lyricist for the band, remarked. "There's nothing I'd rather do than play" and David, guitarist, added his musical roots go way back. "My great-great grandparents were squeezebox players".

Despite busy schedules of track, football, hockey, wrestling and just being teens, they manage to practice at least twice a week and will be recording soon.

They've played a variety of places already at their tender age, including State Theatre, Bay City's Friendship Shell, Castaways and BeMo's, to name a few. They have also played at the Elks Lodge in Grand Haven.

A competition in the Battle of the Bands at well-known Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac, netted the band placing in the top 5.

When asked what some of their musical influences are they all agreed the band AC/DC were a big influence on their musical career. David remarked, "They are the reason I wanted to play guitar".

Other influences and according to Chad, "A lot of my writing style comes from Weezer, Jet and Foo Fighters."

'Ctrl+Alt+Del' are getting ready to play at the intermission of the Bay City Central High School-Band Bounce, coming up May 3rd and 4th. Band Bounce is an annual event. Proceeds go directly to the band program.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and for more information contact the school at (989) 893-9541.
