Dow Bay Area YMCA Hosts Business After Hours

Attendees Applaud Health, Fitness & Activities Facility

Scott Carmona, Dow Bay Area Family Y Board President, was all smiles at the midway point of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce's April Business After Hours.

"The turnout is just fantastic, Carmona said, as Chamber Members chatted and networked in just about every open space on the 1st floor of the new facility.

CFO of McLaren Health Center, Brian Kay, echoed Carmona's sentiments. "McLaren is proud to be the sponsor for tonight's After Hours," Kay said. "This building is a splendid showcase for the community," Kay went on. "It's wonderful that so many business men and women are getting an opportunity to see this building and everything the Y has to offer."

Carmona went on to explain that the intent of the new Dow Y facility was to become the city's center for health, fitness and community activities. "This facility was built for the community and built for the use of everyone in the community," Carmona said.

Longtime YMCA members like Randy Wackerle and Sandy DeGreif took small groups of interested business types on guided tours through the two-story structure that includes weight rooms, exercise equipment of all kind, swimming pools, basketball courts, paddleball courts, locker rooms, day care as well as conference and meeting rooms.

"This (After Hours) is the perfect venue to show off this fantastic facility," said Chamber President Mike Seward. "Everything is right here for everyone to see," Seward continued. "It's beautiful, simply beautiful."

Scott Carmona pointed out that the membership as of Thursday April 19 (2012)at the new YMCA is right at 4,800. Membership at the old Madison Avenue facility was around 2,200 Carmona went on to say.

"Anybody that attends the After Hours tonight can get a certificate that's worth $100 credit toward their sign-up fee," Carmona said. "We're very aggressive in our campaign for new members," Carmona added.

The current membership rates are:

  • Households: $936 annually, plus a one-time $234 fee to join. Covers up to two adults, all dependents and full-time students in the household.

  • Adult and seniors: $528 annually, plus a one-time $132 fee to join.

  • Youth memberships (ages 17 and under): $216 annually, plus a one-time $54 fee to join.

    Additional one-time sign up fees may also be required.
