Trinity Episcopal Church Plans Evensong on November 18

Evensong is scheduled for Sunday, November 18, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church.
 

Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Bay City announces a Thanksgiving Evensong scheduled for Sunday, November 18, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. The choirs from Trinity Episcopal Church and Midland's St. John's Episcopal Church will combine for the service.

Evensong is a traditional sung Anglican service featuring hymns, canticles, prayers, responses, and an anthem.

The congregation may fully participate by singing much of the liturgy with the combined choirs. Congregational hymns include, "Come Ye Thankful People Come," "We Plough the Fields and Scatter," and "My Country 'Tis of Thee." The canticles will be "Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis" by English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams. The anthem is "Sing to the Lord Of Harvest" by Canadian composer Healey Willan.

Nicholas Schmelter will be the organist for the service. Schmelter is Director of Music Ministries at First Congregational Church in Saginaw. An expert accompanying the choral music from the Anglican tradition, he is also Artist in Residence at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Organ music for the service is "Passacaglia" by Leo Sowerby. Sowerby was born in Grand Rapids and spent most of his career as Organist - Choirmaster at St. James Cathedral in Chicago. The closing organ Voluntary is "Marche Religieuse" by Belgum composer Joseph Jongen Robert Sabourin, Organist - Choir Director at Trinity Episcopal Church will conduct the combined choirs. Troy Bergman and Dennis Vankoevering of Midland will be the cantors for the service. Dennis Vankoevering is also the director of the choir from St. John's Episcopal Church in Midland. Jett Whitehead from Trinity Episcopal Church will be the worship leader.

A reception hosted by Trinity's Friends of Music will be held in the Guild Room following the service. Trinity is located at 815 N Grant Street. Barrier free access if off of the parking lot on the west side of the building. The service is open to the public free of charge.
