Ten Thousand Articles
And Most of Them Weren't Crap

June 21, 2015

Ten Thousand is a big number.

A "REALLY" BIG NUMBER.

10,000

After all . . .

  • There were only 1,001 tales (articles) in the most famous "Tales of the Arabian Nights."
  • Radio station WHNN only has 96 days of Christmas.
  • And there's only (at most) 99 bottles of beer on the wall.

As a catholic growing up, I often heard the discussion - "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"

My favorite answer was always: Angels don't dance, they stand together and sing choruses. Demons are the ones that dance.

Speaking of big numbers: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Don't Forget: There were "A hundred million miracles" in Flower Drum Song.

Jules Verne wrote about '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.'

Jelly beans in that jar? That can be a big number.

Grains of sand in an hourglass?

Fifteen men can stand on a dead man's chest" . . . Ho! Ho! Ho!

    Levels of Candy Crush Saga?

    OK . . . Enough babbling.

By now, you probably have an inkling that this column has something to do with numbers.

    You're right.

This is MyBayCity's article number 10,000.

So . . . Here we are on the day of the Summer Solstice (June 21st, 2015 -- The longest day of the year,) we celebrate a milestone of 10,000 articles stored in the archives.

And Most of Them Weren't Crap!

The oldest article on file was written in 2002 by Chris Cunningham as a test article. (We hoped to sell the MyBayCity software as a franchise.) We logged article #5,000 right around this same time of year in 2012. And just three (3) years later, here we are at 10,000 and still counting.

    At MyBayCity:
  • We love our city -- Bay City, Michigan.
  • We promote our town -- Bay City, Michigan
  • We write about the good things that happen in Bay City, Michigan.

Thanks for reading . . . See you at 20,000.

THINGS I LEARNED WHILE LEARNING OTHER THINGS:
Did you know there is a $10,000 bill?

Salmon P. Chase is pictured on the 10K bill. Salmon Portland Chase was an American politician and jurist who served as U.S. Senator from Ohio and the 23rd Governor of Ohio; as U.S. Treasury Secretary under President Abraham Lincoln; and as the sixth Chief Justice of the United States.

BY THE WAY: At this writing there are 1,025 levels of Candy Crush Saga. There are currently 1,025 levels all within 69 episodes, each with fifteen levels apart from the first two episodes which hold ten levels each. (That means that there are either 69,000 levels or 15,000 levels --- (WARNING: Do not get involved.)
