By: Josh Sharrow

Bay County Habitat for Humanity's 7th Annual Neighborhood Revitalization kick-off week is Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 24th. Hundreds of volunteers will be repairing, weatherizing, and revitalizing 30 homes this summer in the One-Ways Neighborhood around Thomas and Jenny streets on the Westside of Bay City.

Projects include repairing and replacing roofs, gutters, windows, siding, porches, and ramps, painting, weatherizing, and landscaping. Habitat's home base for the week is at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church at 501 S. Catherine St. in Bay City and shifts are from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and 12:30 pm-4:30 pm daily. Lunch and t-shirts are provided for all volunteers.

Neighborhood Revitalization helps homeowners whose income is below 80% of the Area Median Income to preserve and improve their homes with pride and dignity as they contribute their time and pay for the cost of materials. This project is part of Habitat for Humanity's broader community development strategy to build and rebuild homes, communities and hope in Bay County.

The Dow Chemical Company has been the major sponsor of Bay County Habitat's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative since 2009, providing both financial support and hundreds of volunteers. Bay County Habitat received grants and contributions from the Bay Area Community Foundation Community Initiative Fund, Chemical Bank, Consumers Energy, and United Way of Bay County for this year?s project as well. The event is also made possible due to the partnerships and donations of products and services from many other local businesses and organizations.

Volunteers who are interested in helping out can call Bay County Habitat for Humanity at 989-895-0980 to register.
