NEW DIRECTOR: Scott Mitchell From Savannah to Head Midland Tennis Center

Scott Mitchell is the new executive director for the Greater Midland Tennis Center, replacing Mike Woody who now heads six fitness clubs in Wichita, Kansas.

In 22 years, Woody grew the Midland facility membership to 3,200 and developed an extensive outreach program to outlying communities, including several programs in Bay City at Garber and John Glenn high schools and Carroll Park.

Midland was named by the U.S. Tennis Association at the "Best Tennis Town" in 2009. Woody was an energetic promoter of tennis for youth, including 10 and Under Tennis.

Woody, 52, has a new job as the National Tennis Director for Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita, Kansas.

He told the Bay City Times: "Genesis is very progressive with 21 health clubs, seven with tennis," Woody said. "I'll oversee a team of 25 tennis pros. It's a view to make health and tennis a major industry in the region and maybe bigger than that."

Mitchell was selected after an extensive international search based on his extensive background within the tennis community as an accomplished athlete and leader, according to a news release.

He is from Savannah, Georgia where he served as Director of Tennis and Court Sports at the Landing Club -- the largest residential clay court facility in the US. In addition, he brings experience as the director for the St. Joseph?s/Candler Savannah Challenger, a USTA Pro Circuit tournament.

While at The Landings, Scott increased lessons by 65 percent in four years, improved member satisfaction and boosted adult and junior program participation to the highest levels in seven years. In 2015, the club was selected as the Best Tennis Community by Real Estate Scorecard.

Scott has held positions as a USPTA Regional Vice-President and served as a faculty member for USTA Coach Youth Tennis. He holds Elite status with the USPTA and has achieved the highest level rating (5A) with the Professional Tennis Registry. He is also certified as a National Tester and Clinician.

Scott earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Marketing and Management from Indiana University.

He will be moving to Midland with his wife, Ashley and three children. Scott's first day with Greater Midland will be October 1.
