Andreas Teich presented two videos to the club on Tuesday.
The first video was a facebook post about a Rotary group placing latrines in a Dominican Republic village. "Since we fund this stuff I thought it would fun to see the results." The video was in Spanish, but the pictures of several trucks arriving, each with two prefab latrines on board, showed the scope of what is done.
The local Rotary clubs in the DR identify the project. The contact District 6310 officials in Michigan who put together the funding. The locals in the DR prepare the sites and take care of the installation.
The second video was about the
LaunchDETROIT, a micro-loan program developed by Rotary District 6400. According to the web site, LaunchDETROIT "strives to develop successful entrepreneurs, especially women, who have limited access to financial and business resources."
The video interviewed several people and talked about their dreams and how the LaunchDETROIT program gives them the ability to make a go of it. For those who are interested, the full video is on the easy to use web site.
As Andreas said in closing "This is one of the things that makes me proud to be a part of Rotary."
