As Midland Tomorrow and the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce unite under new chief executive William Allen, a utility firm CEO has moved into leadership of the organization's board.

Last July the Boards of Directors of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce and of Midland Tomorrow agreed to begin the search for a President and Chief Executive Officer to lead both organizations.

Mr. Allen took the helm Jan. 7 of the two organizations.

The new umbrella organization creates a partnership between the chamber and Midland Tomorrow designed to strengthen Midland County's economic development efforts and maximize resources.

A native of Michigan and graduate of Northwood University, Allen had been the president and CEO of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce in New Mexico. He has a background in chamber management and has been active in the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance. Allen's other involvement with the industry and community includes an education advisory council, legislative coalition, regional marketing committee, as well as the affordable housing land bank and trust advisory committee.

He also was involved in the Western Association of Chamber Executives and was honored with its Russell J. Hammer Award in 2014. Allen also served as the executive director of the Royal Oak (Mich.) Chamber of Commerce and built an extensive background in operations, sales, and management with the Xerox Corp. and in the real estate industry.

Midland Tomorrow is accepting applications until March 22 for a full-time Economic Development Manager. The position will be responsible for retention and attraction visits, SmartZone activities, company support and managing our retention database, among other duties.

In a news release, it was announced that Pete Milojevic, president and chief executive officer of Midland Cogeneration Venture (MCV), has been elected president of the Executive Board of Directors of Midland Tomorrow, Midland County's economic development agency for the past 52 years.

Milojevic, who began his tenure at MCV in August 2013, has been a member of the Midland Tomorrow Executive Board since November 2013. His fellow board members recently elected him to lead the board for 2016.

The following officers also were reelected to the Midland Tomorrow Executive Board for 2016: J.W. Fisher, president of Fisher Contracting Company, board vice president; Rebecca Cox, CEO of The Savant Group, board secretary; and David Ramaker, president and CEO of Chemical Bank, board treasurer. Jon Lynch, the city manager for the City of Midland, is the immediate past president.

"I am honored by this appointment from my colleagues, and I look forward to working together with the Board of Directors and staff at Midland Tomorrow to continue to successfully deliver our objectives," said Milojevic. "The objectives, ultimately, are to retain and create quality jobs, and enable healthy diversification of the economic base in the County of Midland and the municipalities therein."

Milojevic has more than 32 years of leadership, management, and engineering experience, largely in the power generation business. Prior to joining MCV, he served as a senior vice president of the Bruce B Business Portfolio with Bruce Power LP, a private sector company in Canada that operates the largest commercial nuclear power site in the world. He has held many senior leadership positions in the commercial nuclear industry, including three years with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations in Atlanta, Georgia.

Milojevic is a professional engineer licensed in the province of Ontario, with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Toronto. He also served in the Canadian Navy.
