I just saw a very funny, very adult movie. "The Nice Guys" is hilarious. We were laughing out loud. However, it definitely earns its "R" rating because of language and nudity.
The nudity is expected because they are dealing with the pornographic film industry in Hollywood in the 1970's. The rough language mostly consists of "f" bombs.
The main characters are Holland March played by Ryan Gosling. He's a private eye and a widowed father of a 13 year old girl. Jackson Healy, played by Russell Crowe, is a "rough-around-the-edges" enforcer for hire. They wind up converging, then working, on the same case. It is well paced and full of surprises. Not the least of which is the ability of the two stars to have comedic timing and good chemistry. The director wrote this movie as well as the first "Lethal Weapon", it shows. Expect to see Ryan Gosling "channel" Lou Costello from Abbott & Costello fame, when he suddenly comes across a dead body.
Very fun movie. Don't go in expecting academy award perfection or not a real "R" rating. It is what it is and it's great.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
