Rotary Attempts Guatemala Skype Conference

June 7, 2016
By: Stephen Kent

Facing an almost perfect storm of downtown road resurfacing, a parking garage closed for repair work, and a full house of other meetings, Rotary met in the Doubletree Restaurant. Despite the less that perfect venue, and thanks to an abbreviated program, the meeting went well and even adjourned early.

With great intentions, Rotary had planned to hold a Skype teleconference with Osman Adriel in Guatemala, where the club has, for many years, participated in a number of projects. Although President Brenda had successfully Skyped with Osman from her own office and had a session scheduled, it was not possible to make a connection from the Doubletree. Later investigation indicates that Skype requires a great connection and good bandwidth. With a full house, the Doubletree's connections were most likely overwhelmed.

In lieu of the Skype session, Brenda gave an update on the Guatemala project then turned the podium over to Chuck Cusick, who has been instrumental in this work, to add additional details.

Brenda will hold a Skype session at her office in the near future to allow interested club members to join in the discussion with Osman.
