29th Annual Gift of Reading
Presented by BCLS and The Literacy Council of Bay County
November 21, 2016
By: Mary Ruthko
The Gift of Reading Program is sponsored by the Bay County Library System, in cooperation with The Literacy Council of Bay County. Individuals and agencies in our local community donate new books or money to purchase new books for children in Bay County. Many area agencies arrange for the books to be delivered to families. The Literacy Council will also receive a number of these books to use with children throughout the year.
Money or new books may be donated at any BCLS library branch, the bookmobile, or the library system?s Administrative Offices located at 500 Center Avenue, Bay City, MI 48708, or at the Literacy Council headquarters located at 407 West Ohio St., Bay City, MI 48706. Donations are due by Saturday, December 3, 2016, so that they can be delivered to local agencies in time for the Holiday Season.
Thanks to generous community support in 2015, over $3,400 was received, allowing for the distribution of over 2,600 books to area organizations. This program continues to be a wonderful opportunity to both introduce a child to reading, and share in the holiday spirit of giving!
