Spoiler Free Movie Review - Passengers

We saw "Passengers" over the weekend. Good movie. Not great, but good.

It was Science Fiction but that was used to deliver a very down-to-earth story. It deals with loneliness, morality and danger.

The Starship Avalon is on a 120 year voyage from Earth to Homestead Colony II. All passengers and crew (more than 5,000) are in hibernation. They have left Earth not because of devastation, but because they want to try a new life. There is an asteroid strike and a series of malfunctions occur 90 years before their scheduled landing. Jim Preston, played by Chris Pratt, is awakened first. Aurora Dunn, Jennifer Lawrence, is awakened next. Of course more difficulties and dangers occur.

The story line feels different from a normal science fiction film and I liked it. The acting was good, of course. I've always enjoyed these two actors. The special effects were well done. I loved the design of the ship.
