Concert Band To Celebrate "King of Instruments"

On Tuesday May 9, The Bay Concert Band will present the final concert of the 40th Anniversary Season. The title of the program is "The King of Instruments" and will feature the grand Casavant Organ in the sanctuary of Bay City's First Presbyterian Church.

The concert will start at 7:30 pm. Admission is five dollars. Children sixth grade and under will be admitted free. Doors will open at 7 pm.

The concert will spotlight the Casavant Frères Pipe Organ that was specifically designed for the church's sanctuary and installed in 1983. This instrument has 38 stops, 54 ranks of pipes, and over 3000 pipes.

Organist Anna M. Leppert-Largent will play this magnificent organ accompanied by the Bay Concert Band under the direction of Music and Artistic Director, Peter Makar Jr. IV, and the First Presbyterian Hand Bell Choir.

With the organ, bell choir, piano, 55-member concert band, and unique acoustics of the church sanctuary, this promises to be an extraordinary and outstanding musical event.

Featured works on this program will include: Alfred Reed's ?Alleluia, Laudemas Te', and Debussy's La Cathédrale engloutie (The Submerged Cathedral).

Bell-Tone's Ring by Kenneth Amis will feature the band, organ, and the First Presbyterian Church Bell Choir.

Other works will be included. and the program will conclude with the finale to Saint-Saens' "Symphony No. 3 (Organ)" in C minor, Opus 78, featuring the organ, band, and grand piano for four hands.

The featured soloist for this concert is Anna M. Leppert-Largent who is currently the Organist, Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Bay City. Anna has earned several degrees including a Master of Music in Organ, Minor in Music Education; a Bachelor of Music in Organ (with distinction), a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (with distinction) all from Indiana University. Anna has extensive experience as a church musician including: Organist & Choir Director, St. John's Episcopal Church, Saginaw; Assistant Director of Music Ministries, First Presbyterian Church; and Saginaw Assistant Organist & Choirmaster, Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis.
