GOOD JOBS FOR MI: Business Leaders Join Effort for New Legislation
Business Leaders for Michigan (BLM), the state's business roundtable, and the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, have thrown their support behind the Good Jobs for Michigan coalition and legislation designed to grow more good-paying jobs statewide and not be left on the sidelines behind other states, like Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina and more.
"This is a jobs issue. We can't afford to let other states lure away businesses that should be
coming to or growing in Michigan," said Doug Rothwell, BLM president & CEO, adding:
"This legislation will help our state compete for and win more good jobs for our workers and
families, resulting in a stronger economy, more robust neighborhoods and communities,
and increased investment in infrastructure that ensures a strong quality of life for all. We
urge our lawmakers to pass this critical jobs package."
Commented Matt Felan, president of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance: "The Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance is proud to announce that we have formally joined the Good Jobs for Michigan coalition. We support Senate Bills 242-244 which will offer much-needed incentives to bolster job growth throughout the State of Michigan and right here in the Great Lakes Bay Region!
Call your State Representative today and ask them to support the proposed Good Jobs for Michigan legislation!
The Good Jobs for Michigan legislation is comprised of Senate Bills 242, 243 and 244. The
bills would allow simple, transparent and predictable incentives to fill critical gaps in
Michigan's business attraction toolkit, enabling the state to compete and secure projects of
250 and 500+ jobs.
Numerous safeguards are built into the legislation to ensure that no incentives are paid until minimum jobs and wage thresholds are met and verified and that projects demonstrate a positive fiscal impact to the state.
Business Leaders for Michigan is dedicated to making Michigan a "Top Ten" state for jobs,
personal income, and a healthy economy. BLM members drive 32 percent of the state's
economy, provide nearly 375,000 direct jobs in Michigan, generate over $1 trillion in
annual revenue and serve nearly one-half of all Michigan public university students.
