The Book of Henry
I saw "The Book of Henry". Good movie, but not great. However, there were a couple situations that made me not like it as much as I wanted to.
It's about a single mom and her two sons. The oldest son, Henry, is extremely intelligent. He takes care of the finances while his mom plays video games. He is friends with a girl from his class and she lives next door with just her step-dad, her mom has passed away. Henry becomes aware that the step-dad is abusing her. He tries to help by going to the authorities but is thwarted because the step-dad is the police commissioner. He then makes a detailed plan which he writes down in a journal, the Book of Henry.
It is suspenseful. A little bit predictable. The acting was excellent. Jaeden Lieberher plays Henry. He was the little boy in the movie, "St. Vincent" with Bill Murray. Naomi Watts plays his mom and Jacob Tremblay is his little brother Peter. Dean Norris is the step-dad and Maddie Ziegler is his step-daughter Christina.
It was nice to see a movie that didn't have CGI and fight scenes. It was very well done. However, I can't really call it fun.
If you like tension, suspense, and mystery, you will enjoy this.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
