Past-President Andera Hales - Incoming President Bob Chadwick
President-Elect Harvey Schneider - President-Nominee Tara Welch

The club held an off-site meeting at the Courtyard Marriott in the Uptown development. Continuing a long tradition, 2016-2017 Rotary President Andrea Hales passed the gavel to her replacement 2017-2018 President Bob Chadwick. As Bob pinned the Past-President pin on Andreas lapel, he quipped "You are now getting the best job in Rotary, PAST President".

Before passing the gavel, Andrea presided over the meeting and offered some final thoughts outlining the accomplishments and high points of the previous twelve months. One of the first events was the visit of the new District Governor Cheryl Peterson. Shortly after that, we welcomed Youth Exchange Student Soojung Kim.

Of the many events of the year, the awarding of some $10,000 in Community Grants was a high point. The club also held two "Rotary Night Out" events and a picnic. Major fund raisers included the Zombie Run and the Golf Scramble.

Special events included the World Polio Day where the club hosted a viewing of a worldwide video presentation that was shown at the State Theatre. The club organized and mounted the annual Vocational Day where area students were hosted by local businesses and treated to lunch at the Doubletree.

The annual Foundation Gala featured presentation of Paul Harris awards to local community leader by each club. Our club presented the PH to local photographer and community promoter Avram Golden. At the District Conference our club selected member Chuck Cusick as a Rotary Hero. The District selected Chuck's wife Nancy Cusick as the outstanding Rotary Spouse.

A long tradition continued as the club, along with the morning club, presented a dictionary and a thesaurus to every third grader in the area. With Rotary clubs across the nation, we installed Free Little Libraries around the community with the help of the Bay County Library System. The club participated in a book drive sending more than the suggested number of books to the Philipines. The club also sponsored students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camp.

The Annual Concert was held during the Christmas Season with the Morning Club, Northern Bay Club and Optimists. The club held several off-site meetings and various special events and projects including continued support of Rotary in Guatemala.

Andrea closed her remarks by thanking the board, committees, and members for all of their help and support during the past year.

After passing the historic President's Pin to Bob Chadwick, with the admonition to not lose it, Bob presented the past-president pin and an award to Andrea. Bob then gave the equally historic president-elect pin to Harvey Schnider and officially elevated Tara Welch to the president-nominee position.

Cindy Luczak and Brenda Scramlin are selling Rotary "Logo Wear" golf shirts ($25) and visors ($15). This serves as both a fund raiser as well as letting members promote Rotary. Both items are available at meetings.

Brenda Scramlin is recruiting volunteers to work at the upcoming Zombie Run.

The Club board met prior to the regular meeting. After a report on the cost of name badges and options for different badges, the board decided to continue using the traditional round badges. A badge will be included with the new member "kit". If a member loses or changes their badge later they will be asked to pay $17 for the new badge.

Dee Dee Wacksman reported on her recent trip to the Rotary International Convention. She reviewed a number of project and fund raising ideas that she had collected. She also promoted the next convention to be held in Toronto. Being relatively close, the club will evaluate covering the cost of the President going to that event.

New President Bob Chadwick charged the board, and members, with coming up with another large scale fund raiser similar to International Night which, at its height, raised over $40,000 in one night.

DUES for the July to December 2017 term are now past due. If you have not yet paid your dues, please attend to that matter.
