War for the Planet of the Apes

I really enjoyed "War for the Planet of the Apes". The script brought the story full circle. I can't say too much but it was very well written. If you are a fan of the other Plant of the Apes movies you will see connections even back to the 1968 movie with Charlton Heston.

The directing was well done. Intense throughout and very moving. Matt Reeves directed it. It was the second film in the franchise where he was at the helm.

The acting was fantastic, especially by Andy Serkis as Caesar, the leader of the apes and Woody Harrelson as The Colonel. In an interview on a talk show, they showed a time-lapse tape of Serkis slowly transforming through motion capture from himself with the sensors on him doing a scene, to Caesar.

It was fantastic, beautiful even. That was when I realized it really was him acting, the rest was simply "make-up". The Colonel is a horrible person. Harrelson even admitted he didn't like himself in that part. Steve Zahn did a fun job as Bad Ape who was the welcomed comic relief.

Very enjoyable.

So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
