MOVIE REVIEW: "Same Kind of Different As Me"

By: Kathy Rupert-Mathews
We saw the movie "Same Kind of Different As Me". What a movie! No special effects just special acting. The story is spellbinding. It's a true story written by one of the main characters. It is also quite the tear-jerker so bring tissues.
You are first introduced to Ron Hall, the author played by Greg Kinnear. He is reminiscing and takes you back 2 years. You meet his wife Debby, played by Renee Zellweger. They are wealthy. He is forced by a friend to tell Debby about an affair he is having. She takes it much more graciously than I would have. As penance she has him work with her at a homeless shelter she has been working at for a long time. He argues and says "Let me write out a check, you can fill in the amount!" She refuses and quietly yet firmly insists on him putting in the time and physically working with the people. He begins by dealing with a violent man who goes by Suicide but whose real name is Denver, played marvelously by Djimon Hounsou.
The entire movie is run by the acting and the story. Michael Carney is the director and writer. This is his first major film. If the beauty of this movie is any indication, there will be much more. Stick around through the credits for photos of the actual people involved.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
