MOVIE REVIEW: "Green Book."

I'm so glad I finally got a chance to see "Green Book." It was really quite good.

Viggo Mortensen plays Tony Vallelonga or Tony Lip. He is a bouncer and driver for the Copacabana in New York. While the Copa is closed for renovations he gets a call to apply for a job of driving a classical pianist on his concert tour of the Deep South in 1962. The reason muscle was needed was because the pianist was African-American. Mahershala Ali played the pianist, Dr. Don Shirley. The movie was given the name "Green Book" after a travel book was written by a man named Green. It covered the hotels, bars and restaurants African-Americans could safely frequent.

Both gentlemen did a fantastic job. The story shows the growth of both men throughout the tour. You will cringe at the racism and hate faced by Dr. Smiley. You will love the closeness each gentleman starts to find with each other.

It's a warm, loving story that also happens to be true. The men remained good friends for the rest of their lives. Beautiful movie.

So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
