Henry Reyna
Henry Reyna of Secure Solution LLC, is a law enforcement veteran, teacher, and trainer. As a specialist in training, he returned to Rotary to talk about potential threats we all must accept in today's world. He gave examples, showed video clips from news programs, and talked about what we need to be as safe as possible.

The first point made is that too much of what we hear, and how the public, and even professionals, are trained, is "mediocre". It's just good enough and that's not OK. Being retired, working for himself, Henry says "I can say anything I want to" and he believes in telling the unvarnished truth.

Citing various examples, the problem was described with two main points. First, today's youth is being taught an unacceptable behavior through the media, entertainment, and electronic gadgets. Violence is presented in all of these. Secondly, there are religious fanatics who believe that violent behavior is not only acceptable, but it's a duty.

Citing examples, and a video of a shooting in a public meeting, Henry said that "the power of movement" can be a key to survival. In the shooting, the men being confronted at the meeting just sat and listened to the gunman's rant. A woman approached from a door behind the man and tried to hit him with her purse. That didn't work, but just sitting was not an answer either.

The main take away was that when in a public place, we should all be aware. Know the exits, position yourself on the perimeter of a group, not in the middle, look for potential weapons you can use, and keep your eyes open.
