Bay Regional Medical Center will present the 3rd annual "It's All About Celebrating You! The Future of Women's Health Conference" on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel - Bay City Riverfront.

"It's All About Celebrating You! The Future of Women's Health Conference" is advertised as "an exciting and energizing women's health conference designed to give participants the opportunity to explore themselves and learn how to be healthier, more productive and successful."

Keynote speaker Stephanie Marston, a professional speaker and author, will teach participants how to achieve professional success while maintaining their priorities, values and quality of life. Stephanie has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and is the author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons for Women."

Stephanie will focus on helping women rediscover their strengths and recognizing what they love and long for as a woman. The presentations are designed to benefit stay-at-home moms, those managing households, career women balancing work and family, single mothers trying to fill in all the gaps, or single women who are simply feeling like they're living on overload.


Other presenters include local physicians and health professionals who will be speaking on a variety of topics.

· Being A Woman: An Annual Celebration- Judith Bowers, D.O. Obstetrics/Gynecology

· Discover A Healthier You- Cheryl Canfield, D.O. Family Practice

An exhibition area will also be open during the conference and will feature local businesses, as well as representatives from the pharmaceutical industry.

Arenac County Childbirth Cram Session

Bay Regional Medical Center has scheduled an "Arenac County Childbirth Cram Session" on Friday, September 29, 6-9 p.m. and Sat., Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Central Michigan District Health Department, 3727 Deep River Road, Standish.

This is a Childbirth Class set up as a "Weekend Cram Session" and will include instructions on the labor and birth process (including cesarean birth), breathing and relaxation techniques, coping skills and comfort measures, hospital birthing options, as well as postpartum and baby care.

This class is for expectant couples/expectant moms and their support person(s). The fee for this class is $50/couple for both days. There is no charge for those participating with Maternal Support Services.

Support Groups offered by Bay Regional Medical Center

Bay Regional Medical Center offers a variety of support groups for the community. A summary is listed below:

· Precious Reflections, a pregnancy and infant loss support group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2006, from 7-9 p.m., at the Lincoln Center, 820 South Lincoln. The support group is open to parents and their support persons who have suffered a loss during pregnancy through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, SIDS, or the death of a newborn. This support group is offered free of charge. For more information, call (989) 894-3015.

· **New Meeting Day ** The Bay Area Cancer Support Group, will meet on the first Thursday each month, Sept. 7 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Conference Rooms A & B at the Center for Rehabilitation, BRMC West Campus, 3190 East Midland Road. This group offers a friendly environment to allow open discussion for patients, families, and friends who are dealing with cancer. A nurse practitioner and a registered social worker facilitate this group. Participants can learn about the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as learn new coping skills. For more information, please call (989) 894-3180 or (989) 633-8451. Bay Regional Medical Center is a member of the Great Lakes Cancer Institute (GLCI).

· The Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 from 6-7 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 East Midland Road. The Fibromyalgia Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals with fibromyalgia. Charlotte Yang, MD, will discuss the benefits and acupuncture. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. Beth Brewer, OTR, from the Center for Rehabilitation, coordinates the group. Light refreshments will be provided. · Caring for Others -- For individuals who have the responsibility of taking care of others, whether it is a family member or friend. Caring for Others will meet on Sept. 13 and 27 at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road. The group meets from 7-8 p.m. This support group is offered free of charge. · ** New Meeting Day ** The Bay Area Laryngectomy Health & Help Support Group will meet on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, from 3-4 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 East Midland Road. The Bay Area Laryngectomy Health & Help Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals who have had a laryngectomy. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. For more information, please call (989) 667-6600. Gordon Reitema, Speech and Language Pathologist from the Center for Rehabilitation, coordinates the support group.

· The Depression After Delivery Support Group will meet on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 11-12:30 p.m. and Sept. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Bay Regional Medical Center West Campus, Women's Health Pavilion, Childbirth Education Classroom, 3175 W. Professional Drive. The group is open to pregnant women who are experiencing depression or who have a history of postpartum depression, women who have infants and are experiencing symptoms or postpartum depression, women who are having difficulty coping with the challenges of being a new mom, and also to significant others who are supporting a woman with postpartum depression. · ** New Meeting Schedule ** The Mini-Gastric Bypass Support Group will meet the fourth Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 South Lincoln. This support group is designed for people who have had mini-gastric bypass surgery or for those who are interested in the process. Family members and friends may also attend. Diabetes Self-Care Education

A Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is offered through Bay Regional Medical Center. Sessions with a diabetes education nurse and registered dietitian are offered weekly. Topics include diabetes diagnosis and progression, meal planning and carbohydrate counting, knowing your numbers, preventing complications, stress management and goal setting. Our Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is certified by the State of Michigan Department of Community Health and has met the National Standards of the American Diabetes Association. Bay Regional Medical Center offers a variety of prenatal programs for expectant parents. Classes include:
