Sunday was the perfect day to hold the 3rd annual Chili Cook-Off at O'Hares Bar on Midland Street in Bay City. As temperatures dropped to the mid-teens, everyone at O'Hares were warmed up by eleven choices of tasty chili that were entered in the cook-off.

The Winners were:
  • 1st Place: Renie Wryzgowski
  • 2nd Place: Jamie Moszyk
  • 3rd Place: Fusion Cafe'

  • Wryzgowski, the owner of O'Hares was "totally surprised" after receiving 1st place award. The judges laughed as they confirmed that it wasn't a set up and that they (the judges) had no idea that she even entered.

Wryzgowski immediately donated her $150 cash winnings to the rest of the proceeds raised for the Nathan Weidner Foundation.

MaryJo O'Loughlin, Manager of O'Hares, said, "Joking around we told Renie we hid her chili entry, and told her she had to do such things like: make snow angles outside and do the chicken dance to get it back." O'Loughlin continued, "And she did them to, so we gave her chili back which is a good thing sense she won!"

People's Choice Award went to Ashley Harvey, who has bragging rights till next year.

O'HARES BAR & MIDLAND STREET PUB ARE NOW SERVING . . the new Tri-City Brewing Company's Phoenix Golden Ale (PGA). O'Hare's bartender said, "People seem to like it cause its going quick, our first keg was gone in the first two days we had it in."

Phoenix Golden Ale is the brewing company's first beer. The name comes from the old Phoenix Brewery that was once in operation in Bay City, Michigan. The Phoenix Brewery was the last independent brewery to operate in the Tri City Area when it closed it doors for good in 1951. Tri-City Brewing company's Phoenix Golden Ale brew is named in honor of this last brewery.

PGA has a deep golden color with a rocky white head. Phoenix is brewed exclusively with imported German barleys, imported German hops, and pure altbier yeast based on the same strain of yeast used in the Düsseldorf alt breweries. The pure altbier yeast allows Phoenix to be fermented at slightly colder temperatures than most ales allowing for a slower fermentation that helps condition the smooth flavor profile.
