Young musicians from around the area gathered at St. Boniface Church bright an early on Saturday February 10th. They were going before the judges of the annual Bay Music Foundation Scholarship Competition.

For fifty years this competition has represented a milestone for local students. Music teachers have coached their students and prepared them for this premier performance. Winners receive cash scholarship awards to be used for summer study at camps from Herter Music's camp to CMU, Blue Lakes, and Interlochen.

On Sunday afternoon the day after the competition the winners come back to the church for a showcase recital. Appreciative friends and family and members of the foundation and the public come to hear some spectacular music.

The Bay Music Foundation is a local nonprofit dedicated to promoting music study. Besides the annual competition, the foundation holds workshops and master classes.

All scholarship funds come from contributions. The all volunteer organization returns the majority of funds to scholarships. This year the foundation was the recipient of a legacy grant from the Bay Area Concert Association. That group disbanded after 70 years and presented it's remaining funds to the Bay Music Foundation's scholarship fund. This grant resulted in larger scholarships this year. (See related article)
