St. Boniface Faith Formation Class Bakes For Fund Raiser

Every kid seems to need cookies and cakes for a bake sale now and then. Most kids ask Mom to do the baking. For the kids in St. Boniface Catholic Church's Faith Formation class it's a hands on, do it yourself project.

Volunteer Baker in Chief and teacher (and self described professional eater) Diane Seidel says that for the third year the elementary school age Faith Formation class has used the church kitchen to bake up cakes, cookies, marshmallow crispy treats, cup cakes and other goodies for their annual bake sale. The proceeds go to support a child the class sponsors in Peru. Mrs Diane appears at right showing Wade Gatcha how to do a tooth pick test to see if his cake is done yet.

This cooking group took their jobs very seriously. At right Collin Bannister looks on as brother Jason carefully pours a few drops of oil back into the jar to insure the he had exactly the right amount according to the recipe. All of the kids were just as careful. "Put the frosting in the microwave for 20 seconds then spread it on the cake while it's soft" Mrs. Diane instructed others. These kids acted like old pros as they ran the commercial kitchen stove, mixer, and other equipment.

The days efforts were well summed up by Wade Gatza when he said "These cookies are WAY COOL!"
