Take Me Out To The Ball Game . . .
It's not like the good old days . . .
I remember driving down to the old Tiger Stadium with my dad to see a weekend double-header.
Al Kaline, Harvey Kuehne, Steve Boros, Ray Boone, Jim Bunning, Charlie "Paw Paw" Maxwell . . . the good old days.
We always sat in the front row, upper deck, box seats along the left field foul line. I was 10. It was awesome.
I never worried much about the price.
Today . . . All we seem to talk about is . . .
"How much does it cost.?"
The topic of Tiger Baseball came up the other day while I was talking Limo Rides with Ray Stack of
Silver Sand Limo Service.
"A car can't drive back and forth to Detroit these days without shelling out nearly $50 buck for gas," Stack said. "At $3.00+ per gallon, it gets real expensive."
Stack's
Silver Sand Limo Service has a better plan.
Stack says you can "Ride in Style" for $650 plus gratuity (That means, tip the driver.)
What you get:
10 Hours of Limo Service and NO PARKING HASSLES and seats for up to 14 riders.
DO THE MATH: Let's say you tip the driver $100. (You just gotta tip the driver) That's $750 divided by six couples (12 riders) - only $62.50 per person. Includes gas, parking and some laid-back travel time to enjoy a few adult recreational beverages.
"And don't forget," Stack was quick to remind me.
"Time doesn't start until I pick you up."
Stack says the game usually takes 3 hours and you need to allow 4 hours of travel which includes two stops along the way. That leaves 3 hours of fun time, Stack says.
"Some groups have me take them over to Greek Town for an hour or two, others just go right to the game and tailgate," Stack said.
Stack has just added a new 2007 "Stretch" Hummer to his
Silver Sand Limo fleet. The new Hummer is thirty-two feet long and seats up to 14. The new Stretch Hummer has a full wet bar, specialty lighting, two televisions, DVD players and an 8-speaker Bose Stereo System.

"Let's just say that it took a considerable investment to take a standard H2 Hummer and make it thirty-two feet long," Stack said when I asked (I always ask) how much the Stretch Hummer cost him.
And Stack says he has a package that's just right for a drive over to Midland to see a Loons game. Sounds like a great way to spend a summer evening.
I wish I had 11 friends . . .
