$1200 CPR Training Mannequin to City Schools

Lisa Kusey, General Manager at Bay City's Graff Chevrolet has three children (ages 12, 9 & 5) in the Bay City School system.

When Kusey heard that the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF) was offering a Resusci Anne to qualifying school districts, she immediately filled out the application on behalf of the Bay City School District.

A Resusci Anne is a CPR training mannequin with all the essential features for the high-quality education and training of potential adult CPR care-givers.

Kusey filled out the paperwork back in April 2007.

On August 16, 2007, Terry Burns of the of the NADCF was in Bay City at Graff Chevrolet to present Kusey and the Bay City Schools with the Resusci Anne.

Burns said that National Automobile Dealers get about 100 requests every year for mannequins like the Resusci Anne. "Only 14 requests are filled each year," Burns said.

The Resusci Anne mannequins cost $1,200 each.

Martin Gottesman, director of student services for Bay City Schools was on hand at the Graff Dealership (3636 Wilder Road in Bay City), to accept the Resusci Anne for the Bay City School District.

Gottesman said that the Bay City School District has between 1,100 and 1,200 employees. "There's never enough mannequins to go around when we're having training," Gottesman said, accepting the Resusci Anne from Kusey, Graff and the NADCF. "This is just wonderful."

The newest training mannequin gives signals telling when the trainee is applying appropriate pressure in the right spot or breathing correctly into the unit's mouth.

With this advanced training, students learn the "feel" of giving quick, lifesaving emergency treatment. CPR training has proven to increase the likelihood of survival from ventricular fibrillation. Many victims who would otherwise die are saved and return to normal activities.

The donated mannequin is a necessary tool that will allow the school district to train support staff that work with students, through the school's CPR/AED program.

Kusey agreed. "Having the right tools for CPR training can make the difference between life and death," said Graff's Kusey. "Graff Chevrolet is happy and proud to have helped get this piece of CPR equipment into the Bay City Schools."

Graff Chevrolet sponsored the school district's application to the foundation, whose charitable activities are supported by donations from National Automobile Dealers Association and Michigan Automobile Dealers Association members.
