The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy has launched the First Annual Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy Photo Contest. The theme for 2007 is "Picture Your World: Explore the Natural Beauty of the Saginaw Bay Watershed." The contest is designed to encourage individuals, young and old, to get outside and explore life within the Saginaw Bay Watershed.
A non-profit environmental organization, the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy works to protect clean land and water in the 22 counties touched by the Saginaw Bay Watershed. The Saginaw Bay Watershed is the largest watershed in the state of Michigan filtering 15% of Michigan's inland waters. The watershed is unique in that it features more than 175 inland lakes, covers nearly 7,000 square miles of rivers and streams, and is home to a variety waterfowl, birds, snakes, turtles, amphibians and 138 endangered or threatened species.

There is no fee to enter and the contest is open to the public. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in each photo category being offered. Winning photos will be posted on the conservancy website and in the quarterly newsletter, "Watershed Wire". Contestants can choose from three photo categories: Landscapes; Plants and Flowers; and Wildlife. There is also a special category for students.
Photos entered in the contest will be judged by a select panel of professionals with backgrounds in environmental protection, art and photography. Photos will be judged on originality, composition and subject matter.
