Shoe's Corner Store, J.C. Penny and My Bar Claim Tourney Trophies

MEN"S OPEN DIVISION Shoe's Corner Store won the open division of the Rehab Blooperball tournament for the 3rd consecutive year.

Shoe's went 5-1 on the weekend losing the first championship game to B&C Lawn Care, before winning the "if necessary" game 7-3.

Shoe's outscored their opponents 96-20 on the weekend. In one game on Saturday, Shoe's hammered 24 home runs in a 56-0 victory.

Leading hitters on the weekend were: Andy Kowalczyk, Jeremy Kloska, Jim Deaton, Bill Laures, Jeff Sanak. Todd Bennett, Andy Hunter, Scott Knochel, Ed Hare, Jonny Kowalczyk, Jason Leppek, and Mike Floyd.

Marshall Coggins pitched all 6 games.

Shoe's Store is based out of Pinconning, with a majority of the players from Pinconning and the Bay County area.

J.C. Penny posted a perfect 5-0 record to win the 40 & Over Division of the Bay City & Bay County Blooperball Tournament at Defoe Park. Penny defeated Whyte Goose 8-1 and BC Lawn 4-0 to open the tournament. Three one run victories the rest of the way secured the tournament title.

In a game against St. Stans, hits by Mike Kuch, Dan Revette and Tracey Bridges drove in the only run in a 1-0 win. In the winner's bracket finals against Ricker's Green Hut, it was Bridges, Mark "Whitey" Hintz and Carl Miller with hits in the last at bat for a 3-2 come from behind win.

In the championship game against Green Hut, Dave Herbolshimer singled in Tony Johnson in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 victory. John Morris homered earlier for the Green Hut.

Penny pitching was divided between veteran Jim Dishaw and Herbolshimer. Bridges led the Penny team with 12 hits and a .700 average. Rivette and Hintz each batted .500 for the three day event.

Proceeds from the tournament go to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County, The Green Hut Charities, Northwest Little League and the American Cancer Society.

WOMEN'S DIVISION

My Bar claimed the Championship Trophy in the Women's Division of the Bay City & Bay County Blooperball Tournament at Defoe Park.

My Bar defeated Five Star (13-3) in the first round and Dr. Cummings (9-0) on Saturday. My Bar beat Five Star again (4-3) in the championship game on Sunday.

Sponsor Carol Rondeau was proud of the girls. "They're just great," she said. My Bar girls also finished 3rd in the Michigan State Class "E" Tournament earlier in the year. My Bar plays in the Bay County Women's "A" League.
