Garber was riled up on October 5 for what people were calling the biggest game ever.

The Dukes were celebrating their 50th anniversary Homecoming game, where they were also honoring Essexville veterans, and both hopes and expectations were soaring.

Garber took an early lead with Josh Pierson scoring a touchdown with 2 minutes in the first quarter and Jade Dowdy gaining the extra point.

Millington came back with 10 minutes in the second quarter. It seemed as if the teams were going to be tied at halftime, but with less than a minute in the second quarter Garber pulled ahead 14-7.

The Cardinals stayed strong, tying the score again in the third quarter, and it seemed as if they were going to have to go into overtime.

Garber, defending in the red zone against another Millington drive, got a break when Josh Pierson recovered a fumble with just over five minutes to play. The Cardinals got their game-winning break when one play later a pass was pilfered by Dustin Griesing to end the Dukes threat.

However, with about two minutes left in the game, Millington made another touchdown when Griesing scampered 14 yards to the house, but failed to get the 2-pt conversion.

There was some hope for Garber fans with a score of 14-20 and the Dukes looking as though they might make a comeback, but no such luck. Millington is now 7-0. The Dukes are 5-2, and set to play North Branch next week.
