Going into Friday night the Wolves offense knew they were going to score a lot of points against Heritage, and its worst defense in the Saginaw Valley League and their defense was supposed to win the game for them.

It was as if the Wolves offense wanted a shoot out and some added drama as the Wolves defense tightened their tourniquet and slowed the Hawks SVL leading rushing attack, the offense began giving the Hawks one turn-over after another as if to tempt them into keeping up with their multi-pronged attack.

The Wolves relied on their speedy skill players Andre Ware, Trenton Robinson, Trenton Martin, Alex Busch and Justin Reed to get the ambulance lights flashing. (Every time the Wolves score the Bay Medical ambulance parked just past the south end zone fires up their flashers.) After Fridays game they might have to re-charge their battery.

After trading very similar touchdowns; 26 yard pass, 28 yard pass, 71 yard Hayes run, 70 yard Ware run, then Central took a 35-21 lead with a second Martin to Busch TD hook up and a Ware 9 yard run.

Then the drizzle in the air turned to a steady rain and the Wolves offense began gift wrapping a Hawk comeback with turnovers.

The first one lead to back-up quarterback Conner Rodriguez scoring on a 16 yard keeper that fooled almost everyone at Elmer Engel Stadium.

Then on the very next series Martin was intercepted by Adam Beecher who returned it 33 yards tying the score at 35.

The Wolves never flinched when they fumbled again in their own territory at the beginning of the fourth quarter. As the momentum was clearly in the Hawks favor Heritage was ready to take their first lead in the sea-saw game.

Then Trenton Robinson decided to end the Hawk uprising by intercepting a Rodriguez pass then pounding Hawk defenders off tackle until his final 20 -yard burst put the Wolves up 42-35.

The rain never slowed, but it didn't seem to bother the fans as no one was leaving this battle.

The fans were still on the edge of their wet seats when the other Wolves speedster Andre Ware stepped in front of a Hawk receiver and stole the ball and Heritages hopes.

Ware returned the interception 36-yards to the Hawks one and Martin promptly scored on a quarterback sneak.

Everyone there Friday night witnessed one great football game on any level. Both teams were closely matched but Centrals talent pool was just too deep.

The Hawks Deshawn Hayes lived up to his reputation as a good running back scoring twice and finishing with 146 yards on 18 carries but the Wolves Andre Ware showed why he is a great running back scoring three times while also rushing for 146 yards on just 14 carries and getting the interception that sealed the game for the Wolves.

Trenton Martin showed off his skills connecting on 7 of 10 passes for 129 yards when the Wolves needed it most.

Central who came into the game with the highest playoff points in their region will now get their re-match against Midland High in their Wolves' Den Friday night. Watch for Thursdays preview for that game break down. The Chemics were winners in their own shoot-out against SVL co-champion Saginaw Arthur Hill last week 43-29.
