Pinny Boys beat all in Bay County
Western Battles to the End

Those who braved the cold saw a very hot contest at Western Monday night.
Both teams came out a bit tight as Pinconning led their charge towards an unbeaten Bay County record as they took a one point lead 10-9 after the first quarter.
Both teams opened with a half court pressure man defense. Western took away Pinconning's three point threat.
Pinconning employed the same half court pressure resulting in a tight nip and tuck scoring affair. In the second quarter Western attacked the basket more leading Pinconning to foul and opened up the shooting lanes.
Just as Western was taking control of the game and opened up a 20-14 lead, Pinconning answered with two quick baskets followed by a 3 pointer by Barrett Penix giving Pinconning a 21-20 lead with 2:50
left in the quarter.
Westerns Chad Jasman ignited their offense by reeling off 7 straight points and the warriors finished the quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 6 point half time lead.
Starting the second half, Pinny's Brandon Delgado sparked the Pinconning offense by slashing into the Western defense and dishing to his open shooters. The Spartans went on a 9-2 run to start the third.
Western countered with a full court trapping press that frustrated the Pinny offense. The pressure helped Western pull to within 1 point by the end of the quarter.
Three quick turnovers resulted in baskets and put the Warriors
back on top. The press had taken Pinconning out of their offensive rhythm.
With 4:11 left, sophomore center, Lucas Foco returned to the floor after sitting much of the second half with foul trouble. With Foco crashing the boards and clogging up the Warrior inside game along with a
balanced scoring attack, Pinconning pulled out to a slight 58-55 lead with 0:51 to play.
This forced Western to foul the Spartans in order to challenge their free throw shooting.
The strategy failed as four separate Pinny players stepped to the line and hit 7 of 8 shots to put the warriors away.
With one more win over John Glenn on the 19th Pinny will have their first sweep over every Bay County team they have played.
Pinny coach Tim Floyd, our Hank Graff Coach of The month for January had this to say after the game, "we had a little let down in the second quarter but fought back, the 9-2 run gave us confidence. Then we got a couple three's and hit our free throws like we wanted and it all worked out." Brandon Delgado led Pinconning with 14 while Joshua Federspiel added 12, Pinny showed great balance as 6 players had 7 or more points. Western meanwhile had Chad Jasman light it up for 25.
Pinny has three conference games left including co-leader Standish Sterling, while Western has Central, Dow and number one in the state Saginaw left to try to get their first SVL conference win.
