Rocked the State Theater Friday

State Theatre was the "place to be" Friday evening as the School of Rock "LIVE" kicked off!

Friday Evening at the State Theater was the setting for the "Old School," School House Rock, The Broadway Junior Collection put on by the Hughes Elementary School Fifth Grade Classes.

The Fifth Graders put on a lively show for a packed house who were reminiscing about the former Saturday morning cartoon standards.

The five fifth grade classes were in top form as they performed Unpack your adjectives, Just A Bill, Conjunction Junction and many more memorable School House Rock favorites.

A special thanks goes out to the Hughes Parent Council for helping purchase the rights to perform School House Rock Live!Jr.

Mr. Nathan Cholger, one of the teachers also played the role of Tom Mizer, the first year teacher who is nervous about his first day until his subconscious dreams provide him the technique for teaching these difficult subjects.

The stage was a bevy of activity as each "Star," of each song took the stage to lead the chorus of classrooms.

There were Elvis's, a Statue of Liberty, an ordinary bill, Dina, Inter-planet Janet and Dori and a few others who rotated off and on stage to lead the entire choir chorus.

The volume and excitement of the chorus was appreciated by the fully packed house of parents, friends and relatives.

"Hurray, I'm from the other team," is one familiar line from the musical just as, "darn, thats the end," is, just as it was twenty five plus years ago on the morning cartoons.

All those in attendance enjoyed the live show and the wonderful enthusiasm shown by all the fifth graders.

"They were tight and sounded just like the real thing," said Tom Weller an Uncle to Owen Weller who played one of the Elvis's. "It was just a real cool show," he added.
