After years of preparation, June 9, 2008 marks the date when the renovations for the Pinconning Middle and High School officially began. Built in 1954, the buildings are getting a much needed face lift.

The renovation project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony at the high school gymnasium at six in the evening, following the school board meeting. The ceremony began with a wide array of speeches, from Superintendent Darren S. Kroczaleski to Representative Tim Moore to Senator Jim Barcia.

The theme of all speeches was an enthusiastic shared sense of pride and teamwork.

The speeches all placed an emphasis on school pride and a solidarity with the community. Representative Moore said it best when he described the renovations as "These building projects are not just about bricks and mortar, they are about the teachers, the students, the community."

The community played an important role in these renovations. Their first big decision came when they decided to vote yes to the renovation proposition, after approximately nine years of trying to get this project off of the ground.

Since then, the Pinconning community support and pride for their local schools has been shown through donations of money, materials, and, at the groundbreaking ceremony, through good old fashioned morale.

Kim Browning, secretary to the superintendent, credited this success on teamwork. "It was really made possible by the school board members and the community working together," Browning said.

While the look of the Pinconning Middle and High schools may change within the coming months, one thing will remain the same: Spartan pride lives on.
