Vote For Your Top 5 Once a Day -- Every Day

July 3, 2008
By: O. J. Cunningham

It's "Go Time" at Stables Martini & Cigar Bar on Bay City's West Side..

On Wednesday, July 2, judges picked the last five performers to compete in the semi-finals of the Michigan's Got Talent II competition.

That brings the total number of finalists to 15. And these 15 will compete over the next four weeks leading up to Pig Gig Weekend.

Each week, the performers will compete, singing a different kind of music.

  • July 9 -- Rock & Roll
  • July 16 -- Country Music
  • July 23 -- MoTown
  • July 30 -- Singer's Choice

On July 30, the judges will choose 5 performers to appear Friday night (August 1) on the big stage at the Pig Gig as the lead-in act for Eddie Money.

The Grand Prize winner will be named after the Friday night performances. The winner will receive a all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas and will also be the "Opening Act" for the Grass Roots on Sunday at Pig Gig.

(Last Year's winner was Steve Armstrong.) Click here to see Armstrong's 2007 winning Friday night performance.

On-Line Voting begins today. You can vote once per day (every day) for your top 5 favorites in the competition. And you can come to Stables every Wednesday to see your favorites in person or you can watch full-performance video here at MyBayCity on the following Sunday.

Click the links below the write-ups on each singer to see all previous videos of that performer during their career at Stables' competition. (NOTE: MyBayCity has over 500 videos posted on YouTube)

(NOTE: MyBayCity Publisher, O. J. Cunningham, has seen every performance at Stables over the past two years. The comments on the individual singers below are insights from his ongoing observation. He thinks you're an awesome group of performers.)

    Alto
Always a surprise for the crowd as he moves in and out of musical genres. Comfortable with a 60's ballad as with a current pop hit.

    Drew Brady
Long-haired "rocker" in the Journey, REO Speedwagon, tradition. Yet, comfortable with Elton John, Van Halen and most any style. A beautiful voice.
    Link

    Bridgette Ballor
Entered the contest as a 14-year-old little girl. Transformed into a charming young lady with one, very special voice. One to watch!
    Link

    Joe Atchinson
Comfortable with Country and Aerosmith. When he's "on", his voice puts his mark on each song he sings.
    Link

    Geno Cummings
Blues Harmonica player -- And a solid singer too. Passionate about his music and his performance. When he's focused, he's a talent to be enjoyed and applauded.
    Link

    Joe Dipiero
Young, talented singer-guitar player. Depending on song selection, he can be great and/or sensational. You might say: DiPiero has superman potential -- and he's flying higher with every Stables' performance.
    Link

    Di Marie
When she sings, the crowd at Stables listens. A singer with Country-girl charm and a truly beautiful voice. Her performances are "right on" and her songs completely fill the room.
    Link

    Mark Kelley
Mark is a multi-talented (guitar, harmonica) performer who belongs on-stage. Made "points" with the judges for his original music but his Jimmy Stewart impersonation was show-stopping.
    Link

    Chuck Kirkbride
Chuck is "Mr. Sunshine." Always entertaining, always prepared and genuinely loves the singing competition. A crowd favorite!
    Link

    Debbie Kirkbride
Veteran karaoke performer who enjoys the spotlight and the performance. Enjoys the camaraderie of the night. Is a joy to hear and to listen to.
    Link

    Kevin Sackett
Kevin has a "There's Trouble in River City" kinda voice. Seems like he just stepped off a Broadway musical stage. Some in the Stables crowd refer to him as "The Voice."
    Link

    Jessica Rex
The girl of many hair colors and outfits. Sincere about her music. The judges keep telling her to stay focused and be more careful about her song selection.
    Link

    Steve & Steve
Lead guitarist Steve Gould and bass player Steve Solinski seem to improve and "fit together" more with each Stables performance. Gould's vocals are solid and reminiscent of a Bryan Adams or Eagles' performance.
    Link

    Lauren Thomas
Her jazz and blues vocals are a driving music force. Lauren continuously pushes her voice to higher performance levels. She is young but her voice is that of a veteran talent -- not only a voice of strength, but a voice of versatility.

    The Main Attraction (TMA)
Chris Cerbus & Matt Wazbinski write and perform well-designed, energetic and entertaining hip-hop rap. Their dynamic choreographed performance fills the stage with music and has created a strong following.
