Men's and Women's Collegiate Tennis Competition Top Midland Schedule

Eight Tournaments Slated at Midland Tennis Center Before Christmas

If you are a tennis fan, the Midland Community Tennis Center is the place to go in the next few months with eight tournaments including top collegiate action before Christmas. And entry to all events is free.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) kicks off the action September 26-27 with singles and doubles in the Men's Small College Regional Championships.

Director of the tournament schedule is Wendy Franz, USPTA professional and coordinator of member relations and special events, who points to the club's goal of attracting more area interest in tennis.

More than 50 juniors will compete in the USTA sanctioned Midland Fall Open October 3-5. This tournament is for boys and girls ages 10 through 18, and features competition in singles and doubles.

The 2003 Division I Girls' High School Tennis Finals are slated Oct. 17-18, an event which draws large crowds of tennis fans and parents. The MCTC Men's Senior Doubles Championships are slated Oct. 21 and the Women's Senior Doubles Championships on Oct. 28. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships for women are set at the Midland facility Oct. 24-25.

Juniors compete Nov. 8-10 in the Midwest Fall Closed Championships for Boys' 14, 16 in singles and doubles while local high school coaches rate the talent for points toward rankings.

The Midland Junior Holiday Classic Dec. 12-14 is a new event and provides another opportunity for juniors to play a sanctioned tournament andearn ranking from the local and regional USTA organizations—the Northeastern Michigan Tennis Association and the USTA Midwest Section. Play is scheduled in singles only for ages 10 to 18.
