District Governor Chadwick Addresses Club

2008-2009 District Governor Bob Chadwick, making the traditional visit to each club, started the day by meeting with the club board. He then addressed the club outlining his goals and challenges for the year.

Chadwick commended the club on its record of giving to the Rotary Foundation. Bay City was second in the district this past year. Historically the Bay City club has given almost $290,000 to the foundation.

Bob is encouraging every club in the district to achieve a Presidential Citation this year, something the Bay City Club has consistently done. The requirements include sponsoring one international project that reduces childhood mortality. Bob has asked that each club also do a local project with that theme. The citation calls for an increase of one in total membership over the year. Bob asked to shoot for a 10% increase.

The club was encouraged to maintain its excellent record for giving to the Rotary Foundation. There are 57 Paul Harris Fellows in the club. Three of these are at the Plus 8 level, one at Plus 7, one at Plus 6, and two at Plus 5. This represents some $54,000 in giving. Bob said that the club has amassed a very large number of recognition points and challenged members to find a way to use these points.

Commenting on the state of the district, Chadwick said that there is sometimes discussion of merging small clubs. But he gave the example of a club of 13 members that meets in members homes. The said these members are all very involved and active and after this visit he sees the value of every club, no matter the size.

Bob concluded his remarks by saying that the District Governor and the other district officers are there to help clubs. He encouraged feedback and communication throughout the year.
