The Ogemaw County Fair, which began on Monday. August 11 and runs through Saturday, August 16, is another smashing success. Held at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds, the theme for this year's fair is "camp out at the fair". Entry into the fair is $3 a person, with children 10 years of age or younger getting in free. You could instead purchase a weekly pass for $7, which allows you entrance into the fair all week.

The fair is well worth the price, there is something to do for everyone. There are a wide variety of rides, not only for older and taller kids, but there is an entire section of rides especially for young children. For the older children and adults, there is a King Tut themed ride, bumper cars, three ferris wheels, and a ride called the Tornado, among others.

For the young children, there is a circus train ride, a merry-go-round, a ride shaped like a bus, a flying elephant ride, plus many more. One ride in particular is fun for the whole family. Free horse-drawn wagon rides are provided daily, from noon to 6 pm. They offer a 20 to 25 minute tour of the fair and the nearby campgrounds.

Animals are another popular attraction for any fair, but the Ogemaw County Fair offers a unique sampling of animals to view, pet, and hold. This year you can not only see the usual mix of horses, cows, sheep, and rabbits, but a little bit of real wildlife is provided as well. Fairgoers have the opportunity to see a fox cub, a tiger cub, and a baby kangaroo. For a price, you can hold and have your picture taken with one of the adorable creatures.

Besides the rides, games, and animals, the Ogemaw County Fair offers a unique feature among the exhibits. In the back of the fair, by the exhibits buildings, there is an old fashioned, 19th century village. Among the sights to visit in the village are a blacksmith, a general store, an old one-roomed school house, a church, a livery, and even a newspaper shop.

As the week and the fair comes to a close, two things are certain. One is that the Ogemaw County Fair Board has again thrown a fantastic, fun event. And secondly, the Ogemaw County Fair is once more a huge success.

Besides enjoying rides and exhibits, fairgoers can also enjoy a yummy snack or a cool beverage.
