The club will meet at Delta College on August 19.
There should be ample parking in both the East and West parking lots. Enter through the doors closest to North Wing, look for signs to either the East Courtyard or the West Courtyard. Arrows will be pointing downstairs. Elevator service is available. Proceed to the Common area (cafeteria). Delta plans to have plenty of Greeters upstairs and down to help with directions. Ambassadorial Scholar Sings, Teaches and Spreads Message of Rotary
Carrie Kahl is a native of Saginaw Township but has traveled the world doing what she loves most - singing. What began as a secondary interest at Heritage High School, where basketball, volleyball and soccer took the lead, has turned into a promising career.
With an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Carrie is making her way on the American Opera scene. As an apprentice a the Seattle Opera Company, Carrie began to make a name for herself in the opera world. Performances followed in St. Louis, the Berkshires, Greensboro, MC and the United Arab Emirates among other locations. in addition to opera, Carrie has sung with the Seattle Symphony several times.
Carrie learned about the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship when she was singing in North Carolina and met a Rotarian who told her about the program. She immediately contacted a former high school teacher from Saginaw who was a Rotarian. They worked together and within three weeks she had been accepted into the program.
Carrie attended a Rotary training program in Denver where she met many other scholars. She related how moved she has been with the purpose and meaning of Rotary and how the Scholar program enabled her and others to spread those ideals.
The Scholarship program will take Carrie to Europe where she will study music and language among other things. She looks forward to meeting the people and experiencing the culture. She also plans to audition for positions there. She noted that the system is different in Europe, from the support of the arts, to the agent system, to the number of opportunities.
While she waits for her Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to start this October, Carrie has been teaching private voice lessons to area high school students. In September she heads to Cleveland to sing the role of Cherubino in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Cleveland.

Several months ago a committee was formed to explore a new design for the club banner and trading flags. After presenting their proposed banner to the board and getting its approval, Mike Stoner presented the banner to the full club at Tuesday's meeting. The background is a depiction of the Saginaw Bay with the rotary seal positioned at Bay City. A picture of the first Rotary Historic Kiosk is featured along with a quote by Paul Harris. Club members are encouraged to offer feed back to the committee.
The major project selection committee is requesting proposals from the community. The RFP form and information can be found in the download section of the club's web site.
The club will old another membership drive in the next couple of months. Everyone is encouraged to propose candidates.
The Rotary Exchange Student committee is still looking for one or two host families for out incoming student from Brazil.
The district Group Study Exchange program is soliciting applications for next year's visit to Thailand. The team will have one Rotarian as leader and the rest of the members are young non-Rotarian.
Chuck Cusick announced that a Polio Immunization trip is being planned for the Ivory Coast of Africa. This professionally organized trip will be for eleven days. Between 50 and 100 people will go. A brochure is available for anyone interested.
The Polio Plus Challenge has raised $12,600 from members. With the Teich challenge money and gifts from non-members the club's total stands at $17,100.
International Night tickets are being distributed to all members. If you plan to attend, please make payment for your tickets at $60 each. Patron Sponsorships are available for $175 for two tickets.
