Rain, Cold Can't Dampen Sunset Astronomical StarGazer Party

Sunset Astronomical Society President, Kevin Dehne was happy with the turnout in Gladwin. "We had some great night sky and the weather was not really a factor," Dehne said.
They came from near and far.
They brought tents and food and telescopes of all sizes.
They came in search of a night sky and for the most part, all left satisfied and pleased with the weekend activity.
The First Annual Gladwin StarGazer was held in an RV campground on Loomis Road just about 10 miles North of Interstate US-10. The weather was never perfect, often too cold but according to Sunset Astronomical Society (SAS) President, Kevin Dehne, a good time was had by all.
"We had 62 registered groups," Dehne said about the 1st year event. "And then we had 10 or 12 more show up during the StarGaze," Dehne went on. "We're really happy with the response. It was a great event," he said. Dehne said that SAS is already planning next year's event.
Matt Remissong of Lake Forest, Illinois came over 350 miles to take part in the 1st year StarGaze. Remissong met up with his friend, Jessica and they spent a long, late Saturday night camping and looking at the brilliant night sky.Most StarGazers said that the location was almost perfect because it was far out in the country and away from the light pollution of city lights. "That makes for a very Dark Sky," Dehne said. "The Milky Way was especially beautiful."
