Fire Squad Burns Through the Black Knights at the ASC Powder Puff Game
All Saints Kicks Off Homecoming Week in Style

From the moment the Junior-Sophomore team, a.k.a. the Black Knights, arrived in their 'party bus' -- the crowd knew they were in for a fun, yet tough match up with the Senior-Freshmen 'Fire Squad'.

The Senior-Freshman team arrives in style!

From the beginning it was evident why the Senior-Freshmen team had named themselves the Fire Squad. After holding off the Black Knights offense, the Fire Squad began their fearsome blaze down the field. Terrific runs from
#85 Ashley Bowker, and great passes from
#56 Taylor Timm moved the Fire Squad team further and further down the field.
But Black Knight Coach Alex Cherry had taught his defense well. For the remainder of the first quarter, the Black Knights kept the Fire Squad out of the endzone.

The Fire Squad spent nearly the entire second quarter battling it out near the twenty yard line. The Black Knights impenetrable defense was looking pretty good with repeated tackles by
#72 Brianne Tomczak , but they could only resist "The Heat" for so long.

With a single minute left in the first half, the ball was tossed to
#85 Ashley Bowker who blazed past the Knights stunned defenders and racked up six points for the Fire Squad.

The Black Knights took the return kick-off and began their drive down the field, but were unable to get very far before time ran out on the first half.
One of the most memorable things that takes place at the All Saints Powder Puff game is the halftime entertainment provided annually by
Mr. Bob Spyhalski. This year 'Dancing Bob' Would be joined by his daughter Julie, and together the Spyhalski duo would rock the field with rousing dance moves.

It would be the Fire Squad's ball to start the second half and they were looking for another quick score. The red hot members of the Fire Squad tried everything they could to break through the Black Knights steeled defenders, but found themselves stalled around midfield where they were forced to give the ball over on downs.

With the ball back in Black Knight hands, it was time to do-or-die, and they knew it. The Black Knights used everything their coaches had taught them, but the determined Fire Squad was too much for them. At the end of the third quarter, Fire Squad assistant coach
BJ Weaver would confidently say
"We've got this one in the bag".
With the ball in their possession, and still three minutes on the clock, the Fire Squad knew the had enough time to score one last touchdown before the night was up. After several successful runs from
#43 Molly Neymeiyer the Fire Squad had moved within scoring range. With time running out, and even though they knew they had no hope of winning, the battered Black Knights put everything they had left in stopping the inferno nearing their goal line.
Despite their best efforts, the Senior-Freshmen Fire Squad team was unable to connect on their last-second touchdown. The Black Knights held strong on defense. And the The Fire Squad would emerge from the game victorious with a 6-0 win.

No matter which team you supported, it was clear that Cougar pride was all over Sunday night, especially when the Homecoming Court was presented. Only moments after winning the Powder Puff game, Chelsie Niemiec and Canton Brissette were mobbed in the center of the field as they were proclaimed All Saint's 2008-2009 Homecoming King and Queen.

The Powder Puff game officially kicked off the Cougar's Homecoming week which will come to a close Friday night when the Cougars take on the Cass City Red Hawks.
