PRESS RELEASE: State Representative Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) was chosen by the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association as a recipient of this year's Governmental Leadership Award for increasing renewable energy use in Michigan.
"I am honored to be recognized for my work on the renewable energy package this past year," said Mayes, Vice-Chair of the House Energy and Technology Committee. "We have positioned Michigan to take advantage of the manufacturing opportunities available in the renewable energy industry."
Mayes was recognized at the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association's (GLREA) annual meeting, which was held on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Detroit. In addition to presenting the GLREA's 2009 priorities, the meeting highlighted this year's renewable energy legislation and recognized key legislators for their dedication to passing renewable energy standards in Michigan.
Mayes was one of four recipients honored with this year's Governmental Leadership Award. In addition to Mayes, awards also were presented to Representative David Palsrok
(R-Manistee), Senator Patty Birkholz (R-Saugatuck Twp) and Governor Jennifer Granholm.
"The passing of Michigan's energy plan was truly a bipartisan effort," Mayes said. "I am pleased to share this award with my colleagues across the aisle and with Governor Granholm."
The GLREA is Michigan's largest renewable energy organization, representing both businesses and residents. The mission of the GLREA is to increase the mainstream use of renewable energy in Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
