Friends of Celtic Culture Presents: Millish
(Ann Arbor musicians are known for great Celtic music.)
The Friends of Celtic Culture, a Saginaw Valley organization dedicated to the promotion of the music of the Seven Celtic Nations, has scheduled Millish to perform at the State Theater in Bay City.
Concert date is January 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
The Ann Arbor area has been noted for great sports teams and scholars. Ann Arbor will also be known now for great Celtic music. "Great Celtic jazz music." Or is it "terrific Celtic fusion?" Or is it "super bluegrass jazz Celtic improvisation?" Whatever words you want to describe the Ann Arbor-based band Millish, you will end up saying the words: "Wow, they are outstanding!"
"Calling Millish merely a Celtic band is like calling Eric Clapton just a guitarist," says the Ann Arbor News. That probably sums up the band's brand of music. Or as the largest Irish festival in the world, the Milwaukee Irish Fest, commented, "Millish is a refreshing twist to traditional fare. Their arrangements are engaging, and you can taste the jazz and the bluegrass dancing within the Irish tunes. Fun stuff!"
"Talented musicians!" are the words describing the members of Millish. They are comprised of State Champion bluegrass fiddler Brad Phillips, National Jazz Soloist Champion bassist Andrew Kratzat, award-winning jazz percussionist Mike Shimmin, World Champion uilleann piper Isaac Alderson, and title-defying-creative-mastermind guitarist Jess Lee Mason. Gathered together they become a "fusion" of talent dedicated to the evolution of modern music with a "Celtic flair."
Tickets are $20.00 and on sale at the following establishments:

Brad Phillips is a friend of mine. I'll probably be there - to shoot pix. And a week earlier is Jeremy Kittel, right? More fiddlers!
