Playing back to back games is always tough at this level. It is especially tough when you first faced a talented foe like Arthur Hill and then face a scrappy hard working team like Pinconning. In the end, a stifling press and hot shooting by Danette DeCorte netted Central their first win of the season.

"Last night was a hard loss to the number four team in the state (Saginaw Arthur Hill) and we played with them most of the game," commented a tired but relieved Coach Todd Thunberg. "We were a little down in the first half. It was nice to show what we can do. We put a little pressure on them in the second half and things went our way."

A little pressure was an understatement. In the first half, Central toyed back and forth with the press and Pinconning handled it well. Playing mostly a half court game, Pinconning matched up well and found themselves down to the Lady Wolves 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the fresher legs of Pinconning take advantage of Central as the Spartans pulled ahead to own a 23-20 lead at the half. It was Central's Danette DeCorte's 15 points along with gut it out play by her teammates that kept Central in the game.

Central went to the full court press in the second half which Pinconning handled well maintaining a 27-23 lead midway through the third quarter. But a time out with a fire them up speech got things going for the Wolves as they reeled off 8 straight points off of the press turnovers to capture the lead. By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Wolves had built a 35-30 lead and had regains their energy.

"Danette (DeCorte) had a really good game tonight. We rode her on offense as she scored 29 points and she was by far the best girl on the court tonight" explained Coach Thunberg. "This is a nice win and maybe we can start a winning streak tonight. We play Mount Pleasant on Thursday night and we will see what happens."
