PRESS RELEASE: State Representative Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) will hold a town hall meeting to assist veterans in obtaining benefits and assistance available to them. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies will be on hand to discuss their respective programs.
"These brave men and women have put their lives on the line to defend this nation, and we are indebted to them," Mayes said. "Unfortunately, many of our veterans are unaware of the multitude of benefit programs they have earned with their service."
The town hall meeting will take place on Monday, January 26, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Alice and Jack Wirt Public Library, 500 Center Avenue in Bay City. Speakers will include Art Schupback, the Bay County Service Officer; Jacob Bennett from the office of Congressman Dale Kildee (D-Flint); Brigadier General Carol Ann Fausone from the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; as well as a representative from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Mayes has a long history of working on behalf of our servicemen and women. He recently spearheaded a plan that eases restrictions on active-duty personnel to obtain a concealed weapons permit. Mayes also has worked to toughen penalties on those who vandalize war memorials.
"I encourage veterans and their families from across Bay County to come and take advantage of these resources," Mayes said. "Our Bay County veterans have a long and proud tradition, and though we can never truly repay our veterans for what they have given us, I hope that we can help them receive the benefits that they deserve."
