The Bay City Steelers Steel Drum Band performed recently at the State Theater in Downtown Bay City. It might have been cold outside side but the steel drum - Caribbean style music heated things up inside the beautiful State Theater.

Over 300 people came in from the cold for the first ever formal concert of the Bay City Steelers. The concert was promoted as a benefit concert to help funding for the Bay City Steelers to purchase new equipment and continue their mission.

Mike Bacigalupo, State Theater Executive Director, said, "From the audience perspective they were very impressed with the students talents and versatility." Bacigalupo continued, "We do have great things here to do in Bay City as well as have a lot of talent right here in our home town!"

The Bay City Steelers consist of 15 high school students, 14 from Bay City Central and 1 from Saginaw Heritage High School.

The steel drum band started in the spring of 2008 under the direction of Scott Brown, Music Director. The group performs a wide range of music, ranging from Motown, classic rock, jazz and traditional calypso steel band tunes.

The steel drums were special ordered from Pittsburgh. The steel pans and the unique sound originated in the Caribbean islands. The drum sticks used differ from a regular drum sticks, in which they are smaller and used with a lighter, gentler touch.

For upcoming concerts and/or inquiry's contact Scott Brown 616-481-2896 or baycitysteelers@aol.com.

This incredible, unique sound and visual performance of local youths is something you will want to witness for yourself.
